Model Railroad building for a poor planner who needs numerous successes - Step 1

After spending years planning, getting frustrated with indecision and getting absolutely nowhere I realized if I were to have a shot at success I would need to change my approach. I just do not have the ability and patience to plan a complete build. I then began to look at using plans that were available at places like Model Railroader but could not really make up my mind on any of those. There were too many things I liked about any number of them. As I was considering about a dozen of these track plans I came upon another fact, I just needed to get some trains running on some track.

I started to look at things in much smaller steps instead of the whole project.

First- find a space. I located a spot on a corner of the basement. It may even have room to grow.

Second - prepare the space. I put a wall covering over the existing studs and painted it a sky like blue.

Third - the bench work (table). I ended up making a giant U shape. 8x4 down the sides and 12 feet long on the bottom.

I figured the U shape gave me many options for track and scenery configurations. I need options as I move through projects, it is my offset to being a poor planner.

Next blog post will talk about getting the initial track laid and trains moving on the track.
